While Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham’s Fast and Furious characters will be skipping Fast 9, they are getting their own spin-off movie, which is set to premiere in theaters on August 2nd, 2019.
The pair recently finished filming Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw, and today we have the very first trailer of the upcoming flick, which will feature Idris Elba as the main, super-powered bad guy. Yes, you read that correctly: super-powered.
What on Earth?
The trailer kicks off with Elba’s character giving a chilling speech about how he’s the next step in human evolution, “bulletproof” and “super-human”, although we imagine that his suit is what helps him do all the things he does, since tech is always more plausible than having actual “powers”.
Enter Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw, both of which have starred in multiple Fast & Furious movies. As fans of the franchise already know, they don’t really like each other, so the fact that they have to work together is problematic – and inevitably leads to some funny moments.
There is of course plenty of behind-the-wheel action, involving large trucks, some off-roaders and a McLaren 720S. Is it as ridiculous as the actual fight scenes? You betcha!
The likes of Vanessa Kirby, Eiza Gonzalez and Eddie Marsan are also part of the movie’s cast, while the director is none other than David Leitch, who directed Deadpool 2.
