Our spies caught up with a five-door prototype version of the next generation C30 in one of the least expected places: a McDonald’s parking lot in Amsterdam, Holland. It seems that the Volvo engineers were taking a break, leaving our photographers a small window to take a few shots.
The five-door version of the C30 hatchback will likely carry the V30 nameplate and will go against the likes of the Audi A3 Sportback and the new BMW 1-Series.
Albeit heavily disguised, the V30 appears to borrow certain styling elements from the S60 such as the low nose and swoopy lines while interestingly, it features a heavily raked rear window.
The new C30 and V30 hatches will be among the first Volvos to get the firm’s newly announced range of four-cylinder engines that are being developed under the Volvo Environmental Architecture (VEA) moniker.
At the Frankfurt Motor Show, the Swedish firm said that the VEA lineup of diesel and petrol units will be up to 90 kg (198 pounds) lighter than the current range while improving fuel consumption by as much as 35%.
Volvo’s plans for the V30 also include the presentation of a crossover derivative called the XC30 that will be equipped with an all-wheel drive system.
