The Geneva Motor Show is less than a month away and we’re starting to learn more details about Audi’s upcoming e-tron concept.
Set to be unveiled on March 5th, the model is being billed as a “premium compact SUV.” That isn’t much to go on, but previous reports have suggested the crossover will be about the same size as the Q3.
Speaking to Auto News Europe, an unnamed Audi spokesperson confirmed the concept will be unveiled next month and ride on Volkswagen’s MEB platform which will underpin the 2020 ID Neo. The spokesperson didn’t say much else about the model, but the publication is reporting the concept will closely resemble a production crossover which will be launched in late 2020.
The electric crossover will reportedly be built alongside the ID Neo and a new compact electric vehicle from Seat. All three will be produced at Volkswagen’s Zwickau factory in Germany.
The decision to base the crossover on the MEB platform should enable the model to be more affordable the 2019 E-Tron which starts at $74,800 – excluding a destination charge of $995. Specifications remain unconfirmed, but Volkswagen has previously said the MEB platform will be available with rear- and all-wheel drive as well as a modular battery pack that allows models to travel between 200 miles (321 km) and 340+ miles (547 km) on a single charge according to the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure.
Besides the new crossover concept, Audi will use the Geneva Motor Show to introduce four plug-in hybrids. A spokesperson confirmed one of the models will be a Q5 plug-in hybrid, but the other three remain a mystery. However, a previous roadmap suggests two of the models could be the A7 e-tron and A8 e-tron.
