The only positive thing we can extract from this security camera footage is that the pedestrian was in control of his own fate and had both the time and the presence of mind to avoid getting hit by the out-of-control vehicle.
According to the video’s description, this incident took place two weeks ago in Jijoca de Jericoacoara, Brazil, when “a tourist guide lost control of the car and almost hit a pedestrian sitting on the sidewalk.” The guide then fled the scene, only to be apprehended by authorities.
Climbing to safety
It’s a good thing the pedestrian saw the car and recognized the fact that trying to run away would have been a bad idea, given the speed of the vehicle and the angle of approach. He then did the only thing he could do, which was to climb upwards.
We don’t even want to imagine what could have happened had he not noticed the car prior to the crash – luck wouldn’t have been on his side since the nose of the car impacted the exact spot where he was sitting down.
Of course, that’s not to say that luck never plays a part in incidents such as these. Take for example what happened this past November in Tver, Russia, when two drivers nearly hit a woman crossing the street. She was extremely fortunate in the end, and all she did was stand still.
