The first examples of the Corsa VXR Nürburgring Edition have landed in Vauxhall showrooms in Britain. The 205HP hot hatch is priced at £22,295 or close to £3,400 more than the standard 192HP VXR that starts at £18,900.
The faster and more-focused version of the Corsa VXR is powered by a re-worked version of the regular model’s 1.6-litre turbocharged engine which now produces 205-horses at 5,750rpm and 250-280Nm (184-207 lb-ft) of torque, up from 192HP and 230-266Nm (170-196 lb-ft).
The rise in power comes via a modified engine management and turbocharger system, a new sports exhaust with reduced back pressure and the ability to run on 98-octane fuel.
According to the automaker, the special edition Corsa VXR runs the 0-60mph (96km/h) sprint in 6.5 seconds and tops out at 143mph (230km/h).
To improve traction, the company’s engineers fitted the Corsa VXR Nürburgring Edition with a mechanical, multi-plate limited-slip differential, while handling is further enhanced with new Bilstein springs and dampers, a lowered ride height (20mm up front, 15mm at the rear) and lighter but more powerful Brembo brakes.
Moreover, the Corsa VXR’s ABS, Traction Control and Electronic Stability Control systems were recalibrated to take into account the Nürburging Edition’s new set-up.
Visually, the Nürburgring Edition gets stainless steel dual exhaust tips, newly designed forged aluminium wheels in high-gloss grey, and ‘Nürburgring’ logos on the B-Pillars and front spoiler lip, while there are also two new colors to choose from, apple green ‘Grasshopper’ and red ‘Henna’.
Interior upgrades include the black and red ‘Nürburgring’ lettering on the sill plates and front Recaro seat backs, plus the white stitching on all seats, as well as the handbrake and gearshift console.
