Ex-Formula One driver and 2009 champion Jenson Button has revealed that he will race a trophy truck at the Mint 400 in Nevada and the Baja 1000 this year.

Button made the announcement on Twitter, confirming that he will find time to jump into the Trophy Truck despite also competing in the Blancpain Endurance Series and the Super GT championship.

The British driver will compete with Rocket Motorsports and share his Trophy Truck racing duties with Blancpain Endurance Pro-Am Cup champion and Le Mans winner Chris Buncombe as well as Singer Vehicles Design managing director Maz Fawaz.

The vehicle Button and his co-drivers will race is built by Brenthel Industries for the 6100 class, and it’s sponsored by the likes of BFGoodrich, Method Wheels, Mobil 1, and Esso. Racer reports that Button has already tested the racer through the deserts of Southern California.

The Mint 400 is scheduled for March 6-10 in Las Vegas. Button will then run at the 2019 Baja 1000 in Mexico, which takes place from November 19 to November 24.

“Very excited to embark on this all new adventure in racing,” Singer’s Maz Fawaz told Racer.

“Jensen, Chris and I have been friends for a long time, and it takes a certain amount of trust in each other to foster a great team, especially in such a significant off-road challenge. I couldn’t be more excited.”

Button may not have caused as many headlines as Fernando Alonso in his post-F1 career, but he did claim last year’s Super GT championship with Honda. Evidently, he’s still got a knack for racing and be right there at the front.
