We already know Audi is working on a mid-cycle facelift for its A4 family, so it was only a matter of time until the A4’s more stylish sibling, the A5 Sportback, came out to play.
These are the first spy shots of the 2020 A5 five-door model and, as you can see, it’s getting similar updates to the A4 sedan and wagon. Spotted by our photographers during winter testing, the facelifted Audi A5 Sportback has its front and rear ends completely camouflaged, with the fenders getting the same treatment too.
As with the facelifted A4, the 2020 A5 gains a flatter grille with a 3D design and a new bumper design up front, with a pair of refreshed headlights also thrown into the mix. The headlamps on this test prototype look like full-LEDs to us, while the grille features a sporty honeycomb pattern that differentiates the A5 Sportback from the A4.
Don’t expect the LED light bar attached to the grille to make it to production, even though it looks cool. It’s only there to make life easier for Audi’s test drivers during the long Scandinavian nights.
Moving on to the rear, the facelifted five-door A5 features new LED taillights along with a refreshed bumper and new tailpipe trims. Viewed from the side, the only visible updates are the sharper creases on the door sills.
Inside, expect the 2020 Audi A5 Sportback to gain an updated infotainment system inspired by the latest A6 and A7 Sportback models, new materials, and likely new safety and connectivity features. As for the engine lineup, there’s no information available so far, but some upgrades are to be expected.
The updated Audi A5 Sportback should debut after the facelifted A4, sometime in late 2019 or early 2020.
