Prospective buyers who think the regular Audi e-tron looks a little too underwhelming can now direct their attention to the upcoming e-tron Sportback, which features more typical SUV Coupe styling.
The Audi e-tron Sportback is expected to utilize the same fully electric powertrain found in the regular e-tron, which boasts a 95 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that powers two electric motors for a combined output of 402 HP (407 PS) and 490 lb-ft (664 Nm) of torque.
As you can imagine, performance is not an issue, with the latter able to accelerate from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 5.7 seconds, while also offering a combined range of 259 miles (417 km) in the WLTP cycle.
A more conventional appearance
Unfortunately, the production-ready e-tron Sportback is nothing more than a sloped roof version of the regular car, and looks almost nothing like the e-tron Sportback Concept Audi unveiled back in 2017 at the Shanghai Auto Show.
Its body its far less muscular, the front fascia has been brought down to Earth, the wheels are obviously smaller and the rear end is “more Sportback and less Fastback” – meaning that it even has a boot lid spoiler, as opposed to the concept’s more seamless and slanted design.
At least buyers will be able to opt for cameras instead of traditional wing mirrors, like in the regular e-tron. Meanwhile, expect the Sportback to also come with the latest in onboard tech, such as the Audi Virtual Cockpit, Audi Parking System Plus with 360-degree display and rear-view camera, Lane Departure Warning and MMI Navigation Plus and plenty more, as standard. The intelligent Matrix LED headlights, adaptive cruise control and previously-mentioned wing cameras will probably remain optional extras.
Since the e-tron Sportback is only now making its spy debut, a Geneva Motor Show appearance sounds a little unrealistic. However, Audi did confirm that the vehicle will be ready for mass production sometime later this year.
