The current Mercedes-Benz SL is slowly approaching the end of its production run and to celebrate it, the German marque has unveiled the SL 500 Grand Edition at the Geneva Motor Show.
Unveiled online a few weeks ago, the Mercedes SL Grand Edition is available in SL 400 and SL 500 guises. The alterations made to the vehicles aren’t huge but they do help to ensure the Grand Edition stands out from lesser SL variants.
Mercedes-Benz is offering the SL 400 Grand Edition and SL 500 Grand Edition in Designo Diamond White Bright, various tones of grey, and Obsidian Black. A bunch of exterior trimmings, including on the front bumper and side skirts, are finished in high-gloss chrome and matte silver.
The SL 500 Grand Edition on display at Geneva is relatively unassuming from the exterior but the presence of 19-inch front and 20-inch rear AMG 10-spoke wheels do catch the eye. It is the interior of the Geneva car that’s the most eye-catching part, however.
Bathed in Designo Tundra Brown Pearl leather throughout, including on the seats and steering wheel, the cabin of the SL 500 Grand Edition looks like a lovely place to sit. Additionally, there is black Nappa leatherte on the various grip zones and the Mercedes-Benz Airscarf neck-level heating system. The cabin is both sporty and elegant and is certainly fitting of an SL variant that slots just below the SL 63 from AMG.
Powering the Mercedes SL 500 Grand Edition is a 4.6-liter V8 with 455 hp and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque. The SL 400 Grand Edition has a 3.0-liter six-cylinder delivering 367 hp and 368 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque.
