Lamborghini chief executive Stefano Domenicali has all but confirmed that the Italian marque will introduce a fourth model to its line-up.

With the recent launch of the Urus SUV, Lamborghini now has a third model to sell alongside its Huracan and Aventador supercars. However, the Lamborghini family will grow further if the company’s forecasted sales between now and 2025 come to fruition. If they do, Lamborghini will be in a position to build this new model.

Speaking with Autocar, Domenicali confirmed that the car manufacturer is working on a 2+2 grand tourer as its fourth model. The belief is that such a vehicle will help lift Lamborghini’s annual sales to the 10,000 mark.

“I can see that if we are able to stabilize volumes over the next few years, we can manage a fourth model. But we are not strong or stable enough to invest in a fourth model right now,” Domenicali added.

In 2018, Lamborghini sold a record 5750 vehicles, yet Domenicali believes that with the firm’s existing three model line-up, that figure can be closer to the 8000-unit mark.

“That, in my opinion, is the right number for our portfolio and for our markets. If new markets come in, we will need to make an adjustment to that figure, but that is the right number for us to be a solid business right now.”

The introduction of a fourth model, particularly in the form of a 2+2 grand tourer, would help the Italian automaker easily boost its sales further. While this fourth model could take some styling inspiration from the Lamborghini Estoque concept from a decade ago, ultimately it would obviously be refreshed and updated in line with the marque’s future models.

Domenicali failed to say what powertrain the 2+2 would use, but given Lamborghini’s trajectory towards electrification, it may end up with some kind of hybrid system.
