Audi is readying a pair of futuristic concept cars that are set to launch this year in as many auto shows.

Shortly after unveiling the Q4 e-tron Concept at the Geneva Motor Show, Audi design boss Marc Lichte told Autocar that there will be a new concept for the Shanghai Auto Show and a new one for the Frankfurt Motor Show.

“We have concept cars such as the Q4 e-tron that are, more or less, production-ready, and then we have the opposite, cars that are 10 or 15 years ahead, like the Aicon. There will be one in Shanghai and another one in Frankfurt.”

Lichte didn’t provide any details about the Audi concept car heading to Frankfurt, but did say the Shanghai model “will be a vision for a battery electric vehicle of 10 years’ time.” He also said this concept will “show what the broader next step for design [at Audi] will be.”

Audi’s Shanghai concept will also have a unique interior design thanks to the vehicle’s use of Level 4 autonomy.

“Today, we are talking about Level 3 autonomy, but in this car, there will be Level 4, and this will change the interior a lot. This car will give you an idea what an interior with or without a steering wheel can look like.”

Audi isn’t holding back when it comes to all-electric vehicles. The company started building its first, all-new EV last year in the form of the e-tron SUV. The company has since confirmed that an e-tron Sportback variant is on the agenda. Additionally, the e-tron GT sedan is heading for the production line as is a production variant of the Q4 e-tron.
