One Christopher Khalfan, a 22-year old father-of-two led police on a dangerous high-speed chase through Derbyshire in a stolen Audi A4 sedan. The chase lasted nearly 15 minutes and saw Khalfan reach speeds of up to 101 mph (162 km/h) despite driving on narrow streets.

The incident took place on the afternoon of January 21, when police followed the man on the 70 mph (112 km/h) speed limit section of the A610, where they began flashing their lights, as reported by Derbyshire Live. That’s when Khalfan decided that pulling over wasn’t an option.

“There is no evidence that the defendant either stole it or knew it was stolen, but what followed was a high-speed chase during which he topped 100 mph, drove at more than 70 mph in a 30 mph limit, crashed into five different vehicles and took bollards at high speed on the wrong side of the road,” said Derby Crown Court prosecutor Eddie Leonard.

After handing out a 15-month sentence, Judge John Burgess went on to say that “this is about as bad as it gets. We have just watched you driving over a period of about 15 minutes in the most dangerous way. You were disqualified from driving in August 2018 and that is why you tried to escape from the police on this occasion.”

At one point during the chase, Khalfan crashes into an Audi TT and becomes pinned. Unfortunately, the TT driver backs up just as officers were attempting to remove the suspect from the car, allowing sufficient room for the A4 to break loose and speed off.

He was only apprehended after the intervention of two HGV drivers who helped police immobilize the car. In the end, he was forced to plead guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance and failing to stop for police.

He was also given a two year and seven month driving ban.
