A man in South Australia returned to his car the other day and found a koala relaxing in the back seat. Welcome to the Land Down Under ladies and gentlemen.

The Advertiser reports that local winemaker Tim Whitrow left his vehicle to check grapes at the New Alluca Wine vineyard in McLaren Vale. He inadvertently left the doors to his car open and upon his return, found the fluffy creature making itself comfortable inside.

Koalas typically like to hang around in Eucalyptus trees where they eat leaves and sleep away roughly 80 per cent of their lives. This particular koala was quite comfortable in his new-found vehicular home and despite Whitrow’s insistence for the animal to jump out of the car, it didn’t want to.

A hilarious video filmed by Whitrow’s shows him offering the koala a drink of water in order to entice it to leave. It refuses. Whitrow then opens up both the rear doors to help usher out the koala. For the second time, it refuses to leave. The koala then thought it would be a good idea to make its way up the front of the car and hang on to the dashboard for dear life. In the process, the koala’s exceptionally sharp and strong claws started to rip up the dash.

Soon after, the all-Aussie koala had enough fun and decided to make a run for, hurrying up the nearest tree.

It remains to be seen if Whitrow’s car insurance policy covers damages caused by koalas…
