The tiny Geo Tracker is about as non-threatening as an automobile can get. It is absolutely tiny, has cute looks, incorporates a small fabric roof and can’t scare a fly. This one, however, is a bit different.
A 1993 example recently surfaced for sale on Craigslist in Las Vegas, and with an asking price of $14,500, you’d expect something pretty impressive under the hood. Suffice to say, you won’t be dissapointed.
In order to turn the Geo Tracker into a drag-strip destroyer, the car’s current owner replaced the standard 1.6-liter four-cylinder with GM’s 6.0-liter LQ4 V8 once used by the Chevrolet Silverado, Surburban, and Express. This engine delivered up to 370 hp when new, but the Tracker’s owner has worked extensively to modify it, fitting LS9 head gaskets, new head studs, BTR stage 3 cams and springs, and a ported throttle body. Oh, and a a huge turbocharger too.
The owner hasn’t disclosed how much power the little Tracker pumps out, but says it uses an 8.8 Ford rear axle with 4.11 gears, a limited-slip differential, and a heavy-duty rear sway bar to ensure it can put its power to the ground. The car has a best quarter mile time of 9.8 seconds at 132 mph (212 km/h). Which, believe it or not, makes the highly tuned Geo Tracker just as fast as a Bugatti Chiron.
As you would imagine, driving a car as small as this with so much power isn’t for everyone; even the owner says it’s not a beginner’s car and is instead more suited to someone with experience driving fast vehicles. Sounds about right.
