The Jetta GLI is back with a new generation that is built on the MQB platform shared with the Golf and numerous other cars made under the Volkswagen Group’s roof.
It has sportier styling compared to the regular Jetta models, a few updates inside and, most importantly, a tuned chassis. The suspension comes straight from the Golf GTI, whereas the brakes are from the Golf R.
As for the engine, well, that’s also from the Golf GTI. The 2.0-liter turbocharged, four-cylinder unit makes 228 hp (231 PS / 170 kW) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque. And if your inner petrol head was asking whether it can be had with a stick shift, then the answer is yes: the six-speed manual is offered alongside the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and is said to be “fantastic”.

The word was used by ThrottleHouse in their video review of the car, and they have also come to appreciate other strong points. The driver-centric interior, decent materials with lots of soft-touch parts and the abundance of space at the back are just some of things that make it a great ride for the buck spent. They’re not the only ones either, and just to prove that enthusiasts don’t need to spend extra on the top-of-the-line spec, they said that even the base infotainment system is totally fine, and one can definitely live without the digital gauges.
