A near miss at a fast food drive-thru has lead to a bizarre series of events which culminated in a car bombing.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the crazy story began on February 22nd at a McDonald’s in Warrawong, New South Wales. A couple was going to the restaurant to pick up some food, when another vehicle apparently came close to hitting them in the drive-thru.

The couple apparently honked their horn at the other driver and this made her angry. She was so upset by this minor transgression that she wrote down their license plate and called police to report them. Of course, police didn’t do anything because the incident was a non-issue.

The woman eventually returned home and told her boyfriend about what happened in the drive-thru. Police allege the couple decided to get even and used “ingenious” methods to track the other couple down.

Authorities haven’t released a lot of details about the bomb, but Detective Superintendent Michael McLean told the publication that the resulting explosion could have been fatal.

According to police, the man has been charged with “two counts of use carriage service to threaten serious harm, two counts of stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm, use carriage service to threaten to kill, destroy or damage property, place explosive in/near vehicle with intent cause harm, threaten or cause injury to person for being witness and two counts of possess or use prohibited weapon without permit.”

While the incident started with the man’s girlfriend, she’s only facing charges of being an accessory after the fact to destroy or damage property and stalking / intimidating to cause fear or physical harm.
