Do you have an old child car seat lying around that’s just begging to be thrown away? If you do, there’s no need to put it in the garbage as, later this month, Target will host a car seat trade-in event at a number of locations across the U.S.

From April 22 until May 4, Target will be accepting all kinds of seats, including infant seats, convertible seats, booster car seats, harness seats, and car seat bases which may be expired or damaged. All you have to do is find a local Target store with a car seat drop-off box and you can get rid of that seat taking up room in your garage with the knowledge that materials from the seat will be recycled.

Having old seats recycled isn’t the only incentive being offered by Target. In addition, anyone who trades in their old car seat will receive a 20 per cent off coupon which can be used towards a new car seat, car seat base, travel system, stroller or select other baby home gear including high chairs, swings, and bouncers. The coupon can be used until Saturday, May 11, 2019.

Since Target first launched its car seat trade-in program in April 2016, more than half a million car seats have been recycled. The retail chain’s various trade-in programs have helped to recycle in excess of 7.4 million pounds (3.35 million kg) of materials.

Ensuring the seat you use for your child is up-to-date and undamaged is of utmost importance for its safety. With Target’s trade-in program, upgrading or replacing seats is made a bit easier.
