A celebrity-owned example of the Mercedes 500E, which is also one of just 29 UK-supplied cars in left hand drive, is hitting the auction block in May.

Rowan Atkinson is a world-class celebrity with some pretty fine taste in cars, as it has been very well documented over the years. One of the British actor’s most famous possessions was a McLaren F1, which he crashed twice, as well as various Aston Martins, a Honda NSX, a Ferrari 456 GT, pre-war BMWs – the list is long.

You might recall that this isn’t the first time Atkinson offers a 500E for sale; back in February 2018, the actor sold another 500E along with a lovely Lancia Thema 8.32, the square Italian saloon that’s powered by a Ferrari V8.

As it turns out Atkinson had more than one 500Es in his garage, with the specific car being a pre-facelift example from 1991. He bought the car new and kept it for four years before selling it to its second owner. After 23 years, in 2017, Atkinson repurchased the car and now it offers it in a Classic Car Auction sale that will take place on May 25.

The Mercedes 500E is considered to be one of the ultimate “wolfs in sheep’s clothing” of the 1990s. It was developed and assembled by Porsche in Zuffenhausen on behalf of Mercedes, with power coming from a 5.0-liter V8 with 326hp. 0-62mph (100km/h) came in 5.9 seconds, with top speed limited to 155mph (250km/h).

This specific car has been featured in UK’s Car magazine and comes with a comprehensive history file. Mind you, it’s not a garage queen as it has covered 193,000 miles and is expected to fetch an “attractive” price for those who want a 500E to use and enjoy.
