Yesterday, we received a tip about two possible Alfa Romeo 4C Quadrifoglio prototypes which are on display at the FCA Heritage HUB in Italy.
The models were briefly shown in a YouTube video and noticed by members of the Tonale Forum. This obviously piqued our interest as we haven’t heard anything about a 4C Quadrifoglio in years.
As you can see in the video, the cars have been equipped with a more aggressive front fascia which has a carbon fiber splitter and a more pronounced grille. The models also have a ventilated hood, optimized air intakes and Quadrifoglio four leaf clover badges on the front fenders.
The aggressive styling continues further back as we can see a carbon fiber aerodynamics package which includes side skirts extensions and front fins. The rear is particularity sporty as it has a prominent wing, a center-mounted dual exhaust system and a massive diffuser.
The 4C Coupe incorporates many of the same styling features, but it boasts a carbon fiber roof to save weight. There’s no word on how much weight, but the 2018 4C Coupe weighed just 2,465 lbs (1,118 kg).
We wanted to know more about the cars, so we reached out to Alfa Romeo. A company spokesperson told us “The 4C vehicles pictured inside the new FCA Heritage HUB are simply an exercise in style done by the Alfa Romeo design team at Centro Stile in Turin, Italy. While they appear to be Quadrifoglio editions, they have the same powertrain as a normal 4C and were only meant to showcase what a possible, more aggressive version of the 4C would look like.” The spokesperson went on to say “Simply put, they were never meant to enter production as they were only an exercise in design.”
A 4C Quadrifoglio would have been an interesting proposition, but the standard model isn’t exactly lacking in performance as it has a turbocharged 1.75-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 237 hp (177 kW / 240 PS) and 258 lb-ft (349 Nm) of torque. This enables the 4C Coupe and Spider to accelerate 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in just 4.1 seconds.
