The vehicle you’re looking at comes from the mind of Rashid Tagirov and is dubbed the Volvo PV. It offers an intriguing look of one form the car could take in a new-age of urban mobility and… it has us a little worried.

The first thing that stands out about the Volvo PV is its shape. The term “futuristic” doesn’t even begin to describe it, so let’s just say that it looks unlike anything we’ve ever seen (or want to see – but that’s another story altogether).

As the Volvo PV hasn’t been designed for the present day but rather sometime in the future, it is fully autonomous, so there are no traditional controls in the cabin. In fact, the interior appears to be made up almost exclusively of a comfortable seat which supports two people and incorporates a touchscreen interface between them.

Those riding onboard the PV don’t look at the world through a traditional windshield either. Instead, there is a circular glass canopy which sits over them and side windows incorporated neatly into the overall design.

While it remains to be seen exactly what form vehicles focused exclusively on urban mobility will take in the years and decades to come, we do expect to see some interesting designs pop up as designers and engineers alike will be freed from the constraints of traditional layouts. Will anything as radical as this ever make it to production? Can’t say for sure; but what we can say is that future cars will look extremely different to what we’re used to.
