Apollo Automobili announced that it has started production of the limited-edition Intensa Emozione (IE) after completing development of the eye-popping hypercar.
Underpinning the production-ready Apollo IE is an all-new carbon fiber chassis co-developed with HWA AG and Capricorn Group.
Not only does the IE feature a carbon fiber monocoque, but its subframes and crash structures are also made from the lightweight material and is said to be so strong that it “partly exceeds respective FIA LMP2 safety requirements.” Capricorn is an expert when it comes to producing chassis’ and even built the chassis of the Le Mans-winning Porsche 919 Hybrid.
As we’ve known for quite some time, much of the IE’s development was handled by HWA AG, the renowned motorsport specialist who built the CLK GTR for Mercedes-Benz. One aspect of the car which HWA played a pivotal role in developing are the new butterfly doors that feature a manually actuated hinge system which will disengage the doors in the event of a rollover. HWA also helped develop the carbon/Kevlar fuel cell which is integrated directly into the monocoque.
Every Apollo IE comes complete with a fully-integrated fire suppression system which is initiated manually by the driver or passenger and protects both the cockpit and engine bay. Apollo has also worked extensively on improving the aerodynamic efficiency of the IE over the initial prototypes unveiled to the world in late 2017. Brembo carbon ceramic brakes have also been developed for IE owners who will drive their cars primarily on the street, while AP Racing steel rotors are available for heavy track use.
The IE is powered by a Ferrari-derived 6.3-liter naturally-aspirated V12 which reportedly delivers 769 hp and 561 lb-ft (760 Nm) of torque, although the company has previously stated that it can extract up to 1000 hp from this engine.
Production will be capped at just 10 units worldwide with prices starting at $2.71 million.
