More information has emerged on the upcoming Mercedes AMG GT Black Series which will sit on the top of range, above the recently revealed GT R Pro.
AMG’s boss Tobias Moers told Autocar that the new AMG GT Black Series will be their fastest accelerating model, at least until the limited AMG One hypercar arrives in mid-2020.
In order to do that, it will employ a more powerful version of the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that will produce around 630hp (638PS); if the power figure sounds familiar is because that version of the engine already exists under the bonnet of the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe.
That will make the upcoming AMG GT Black Series easily faster than the 577hp GT R and GT R Pro models, which can complete the 0-62mph (100km/h) in 3.6 seconds and top out at 198mph (318km/h).
The extra power will be combined with a more aggressive chassis setup and more aero; our latest spyshots reveal that the AMG GT Black Series will feature unique canards up front, a more prominent rear diffuser and a bigger wing.
Mercedes hasn’t given us a Black Series for seven years now, with the last model to wear the top-dog designation being the SLS Black Series in 2013. All this will change when the Mercedes AMG GT Black Series will arrive next year.
