All-New Land Rover Defender Launching In September, Deliveries Start In Early 2020

A brand new Land Rover Defender is currently in the works, with several prototypes having been spotted in recent months.

Now, however, we also know when the British automaker plans on unveiling the off-roader, following a CarAdvice interview with JLR communications boss Tim Krieger. And it appears that we are less than 6 months away from a full unveiling, with sales set to commence next year.

“You’ve got Defender coming up later in the year which will be huge… the car will be revealed around September, but we won’t see customer deliveries until early next year,” stated Krieger during a media event in Saint Tropez for the updated Jaguar XE.

“There will be something around Frankfurt [which takes place in September]. Whether it’s at the motor show or whether it’s an out of show event, we’re sorting that out at the moment, with Australia in early 2020.”

When asked about Australian interest in the Defender, Krieger commented that this is “one of the few markets that continued to sell the old Defender right up to the end. So in a sense, the brand name is probably stronger in Australia because we haven’t had this hiatus like some of the other markets who haven’t sold it in a number of years.”

“So that’s a positive. The interest that new cars kind of command is just huge. So if you look at that you’ve got these two new cars that we’ve got and then there’s the two Range Rovers, it’s a pretty good year coming up I think,” he concluded.

Until the camouflage comes off, we’ll undoubtedly spot more prototypes undergoing tests in the coming months. Back in February, we even caught a glimpse of the all-new Defender’s interior, which appears to feature an utilitarian design, mixing plastics with leather.
