Car subscription services have been largely been limited to luxury automakers such as Audi, BMW, Porsche, Mercedes and Volvo.

That’s about to change as rental car giant Enterprise has announced plans to launch its own subscription service next month. The company didn’t go into specifics, but confirmed the service will be launched in three states and provide access to more than 20 different vehicles from multiple manufactures.

There’s no word on which models will be included in the subscription, but Enterprise said customers will be able to select from six different vehicle classes including small and mid-sized trucks, small and mid-sized crossovers, full-sized sedans and premium sedans. That’s a little vague but, if choices echo their rental fleet, options could include the Ford Fusion, Nissan Maxima and Toyota RAV4.

Subscribers will be able to swap vehicles four times per month and the service will include insurance, maintenance, registration and roadside assistance. Later down the road, the service will include SiriusXM satellite radio.

A lot of questions remain about the subscription service, but Enterprise Holdings’ Executive Vice President of Operations, Randal Narike, said the three state rollout will be used to evaluate consumer preferences and fine-tune the service. Once this is completed, the subscription service will launched “throughout the U.S.”

Narike went on to say “Our new vehicle-subscription service will offer consumers another innovative mobility alternative, without the long-term financial burden or commitment typically associated with traditional leases or purchases.”
