Update: In a statement provided to Carscoops, Cadillac confirmed that it has indeed dropped the 2.0-liter four-cylinder from the CT6 range stating; “Cadillac currently offers three engine choices for the CT6: A naturally-aspirated 3.6L V-6, Twin-Turbo 3.0L V-6 and the Blackwing Twin-Turbo 4.2L V-8. These three engines represent the overwhelming preference for our customers in this segment.”

Those looking to buy a 2019 Cadillac CT6 can no longer order the luxury sedan with GM’s base 2.0-liter turbocharged engine.

While searching through the CT6’s ordering system, Cadillac Society discovered that the 2.0-liter Turbo inline four-cylinder engine model is “built out” and “no longer available” for the 2019 model year. A look at the CT6’s online configurator shows that the 2.0-liter model is no longer an option.

It is somewhat surprising that Cadillac has decided to ditch the 2.0-liter from the CT6 range as the latest-generation LSY engine only replaced the previous-gen LTG 2.0-liter for the 2019 model year. It pumped out a total of 237 hp and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque and was sold exclusively in rear-wheel drive configuration.

Only big engines for a big car

Cadillac’s decision to drop the four-cylinder CT6 from its range also means that the sedan can no longer be purchased as a rear-wheel drive vehicle as all remaining variants come with all-wheel drive as standard.

With the four-cylinder going the way of the dodo, Cadillac customers are left with three powertrains to choose from for the CT6. The entry-level engine in the family is a naturally-aspirated 3.6-liter V6 that delivers 335 hp and 284 lb-ft (385 Nm). Next in the range is a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 offering up 404 hp and 400 lb-ft (542 Nm) of torque.

The standard range is topped out by a variant powered by the automaker’s twin-turbo 4.2-liter Blackwing V8 engine with 500 hp and 574 lb-ft (778 Nm). This engine is also sold in 550 hp form in the CT6-V but the initial production allocation of that model has already sold out.

Carscoops has contacted Cadillac seeking an explanation as to why the 2.0-liter CT6 has been dropped.
