The latest news from Honda’s motorsport front is that the Japanese company will campaign a CR-Z hybrid racecar at the second annual Le Mans Vers Le Futur (literally translates to ‘Le Mans to the Future’), which is a support event for the 79th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Nissan will also participate in the exhibition, which is devoted to showcasing the Le Mans racing cars of the future, with the pure-electric Leaf Nismo RC concept.

Displayed to the public for the first time at the last year’s SEMA in Las Vegas, the competition version of the CR-Z Hybrid was developed by Honda Performance Development (HPD), which is the “racing arm” of American Honda.

It uses an upgraded version of the standard model’s hybrid powertrain comprising of a 1.5-liter gasoline unit and an electric motor mounted between the internal combustion engine and the 6-speed manual gearbox, rated at 200-horsepower and 237Nm (174.8 lb-ft) of peak torque.
