Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show back in March, the one-of-one Bugatti La Voiture Noire immediately became the world’s most expensive new car, with a price tag of nearly $19 million.

Initially, it was thought that former VW Group chairman Ferdinand Piech was the hypercar’s secret buyer, but a recent report by Spanish outlet Marca claims that the lucky owner is none other than soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

Even if that’s the case, CR7 will still have to wait until 2021 for Bugatti to finish building the La Voiture Noire.

“It’s not the final car. We only started working on the project half a year ago, when the customer agreed to our project proposal, we started building it. The car will be delivered only in two to two and a half years,” stated Bugatti communications boss Tim Bravo, while admitting that the Geneva car “didn’t have an interior design yet.”

The La Voiture Noire is a modern homage to the Type 57 SC Atlantic, and is said to be powered by an 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16 engine, good for 1,500 PS (1,479 HP) and 1,600 Nm (1,180 lb-ft) of torque, just like the Chiron.

If Ronaldo does turn out to be this car’s owner two years from now, then the one-of-one Bugatti should fit right in with the rest of his ultra-expensive car collection. The Juventus star bought a Veyron Grand Sport after Portugal won the European Cup, and is known to also own a Chiron, among many other exotic rides.
