Dodge Demon Morphs Into An ‘Under Glass’ Rear-Engined Monster

The Dodge Challenger Demon is one of the most ridiculous performance vehicles ever, but it could be made even crazier if that big supercharged engine was moved from the front to the rear.

Creating a rear-engined Challenger Demon may sound insane. That’s because it is. However, a company called Hurst Performance actually made a handful of rear-engined Plymouth Barracudas back in the 1960s and 1970s. Not only did these exhibition drag cars have huge 7.0-liter Hemi V8s sitting above their rear axles, these engines were also placed under glass windows, showing them to the world.

In a bid to see what a modern interpretation of these special Barracudas, lovingly known as the ‘Hemi Under Glass’ models, could look like, Abimelec Design has created the following renderings.

The designer started with a Challenger Demon and overhauled the rear to incorporate an enlarged window. Sitting beneath this glass panel is the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 normally found beneath the long hood of the muscle car. As you can see, the finished item looks pretty wild.

Just think about this for a second: a rear-engined Dodge with 840 hp. Driving a vehicle like this could very well be one of the craziest automotive experiences anyone could possibly have.

Shame it’s unlikely to ever see the light of day, so we’ll never know if it can pull a wheelie this huge.
