Ford held a contest on its official Mustang Facebook page asking fans to suggest a name for the new V6 Performance Package. More than 3,000 submissions were made and nearly 6,700 users installed the “You Name It” app that let them take part in the contest. Some 1.4 million fans were then asked to vote with the winning name being “Mayhem Mustang Package”. The top-voted submission came from Jeremy Marler from North Carolina, who won a three-year lease on a 2012 Mustang, equipped of course with the Mayhem Mustang Package.
“We saw great enthusiasm from fans, with tons of creative, unique names coming in. The contest was twofold – it let us engage with fans by letting them have a say, and it helped build awareness for the package,” said Brian McClary, Ford social and emerging media specialist.
The Mayhem Mustang Package uses the 305-horsepower aluminum V6 engine, along with components sourced from the Mustang GT, such as suspension, braking and body stiffening elements. The car’s handling is enhanced by a near-equal front/rear weight distribution and by the curb weight of under 3,500 pounds (1,587 kilograms).
The package includes, among others, a 3.31 rear axle ratio aimed at providing quicker off-the-line acceleration, unique 19-inch wheels shod in Pirelli performance tires and a different calibration for the electronic stability control with sport mode for performance driving. Mustang GT-sourced parts include front and rear stabilizer bars, front struts and rear shocks/springs and front and rear brake calipers with Performance Friction pads.
Ford said the Mayhem Mustang Package will be used as the official name on all Mustang sales, marketing and communications materials.
