There aren’t many things more terrifying than finding yourself stationary in traffic with no room or time to maneuver as a speeding out-of-control vehicle skids towards you. If it hadn’t been for the concrete barrier, multiple people on the right side of this freeway could have been seriously injured – or worse.
The crash took place at the beginning of this month in Salt Lake City, Utah, and according to the video’s description, the driver of the truck seemed OK post-crash.
The driver of the dashcam car thinks that ice could have been the culprit, and if he’s right then it would certainly explain why the truck began to slide the way it did. In his own words, here’s how it went down:
“As I was waiting in traffic I saw the white pickup truck veer off course and start heading straight towards the barrier in front of me. It hit the barrier and came flying at me. I seriously thought I was going to die. I thought the truck was gonna take off the top part of my car. Luckily the truck’s back right tire caught the barrier and kept the truck on the barrier instead of flying over and taking out my car! I remember looking up and seeing the underside of the truck and it was so unreal!”

“After it happened, I called Onstar to report the emergency but there was a police officer a few cars back from me. I could see the person poking their head out and talking to the officer so I left. When I got to the same area on the freeway that the truck had been on, I felt my car slip on ice so I’m sure that the truck hit the ice and that’s what made it veer off.”
Whether it was ice or some other type of issue, it doesn’t change the fact that the cammer was extremely lucky not to get hit. Had the truck actually jumped over the median, it could have ended in disaster – perhaps even as described above.
As always, we advise adjusting your speed according to whatever type of weather you’re experiencing. In this case, the wet tarmac should have served as a warning to the truck driver.
