Report Says Chevrolet C8 Corvette May Be Untunable – Good Luck With That GM

The Chevrolet Corvette has long been a favorite car for tuning companies to modify and make faster but according to a new report, modifying the C8 Corvette may prove quite difficult.

A report out of Muscle Cars & Trucks claims that all new C8 Corvette models will feature a unique encrypted ECU system which apparently means tuning and re-programming the ECU could almost be impossible.

Unnamed sources assert that the encrypted ECU of the C8 will make it extremely difficult to read, write, and/or replace. Tuning companies could still of course fit mechanical modifications to the C8’s powertrain but without the ability to tune or replace the ECU to make the most of these upgrades, any alterations would be rendered virtually useless.

It is claimed that if someone attempts to crack into the ECU, the car’s computer will be shut down and need to be rebooted, likely with a program only accessible to Chevrolet.

Talk about the C8 Corvette being ‘untuneable’ reminds us of the R35-generation Nissan GT-R’s launch when the Japanese car manufacturer claimed that it too had made the GT-R’s ECU impossible to crack. We all know how that turned out as it didn’t only take mere weeks for Godzilla’s computer to be cracked but in the ensuing decade it has proved to be one of the most popular performance cars on earth to modify.
