The VW Golf R might be one of the most docile hot hatches to look at but it also happens to be one of the fastest as well.
The guys from Mighty Car Mods in Australia recently purchased a white Golf R and performed a series of modifications, both mechanical and software-related. As a result, the car pumps out 375 hp (280 kW) at all four wheels and is capable of some blistering acceleration times.
To see what the hatch is made of, it was lined up against a series of different performance cars across the price spectrum.

Among the first cars to face off against the Golf R were an Audi RS3, a Kia Stinger, and a Nissan GT-R. None of them could come close. However, an Audi R8 V10 Plus soon rolled up and it was able to sprint down the quarter mile three-tenths quicker than the Golf, recording a time of 11-seconds flat. Other vehicles included in the races were a modified Subaru Liberty, a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII, and most impressively, a purple Lamborghini Huracan Performante.
Unsurprisingly, it was the Raging Bull which put in the best quarter-mile time of the night with a blistering run of 10.5-seconds.
It’s worth mentioning just how impressive a modified Golf R can be. Testing saw it achieve a best 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of just 2.97 seconds and record a pair of 11.2-second quarter mile times, times usually associated with mid-engined supercars that have more than twice its power and are, of course, massively more expensive.
