1963 Corvette Sting Ray Convertible Makes Us Weak At The Knees

The second-generation Chevrolet Corvette, best known as the Sting Ray, might just be the best-looking ‘Vette ever made – bar none.

The C2 was built between 1962 and 196,7 and in the years leading up to its launch, famed GM engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov actually looked into the possibility of making the C2 mid-engined. While that never came to be, the C2 did end up with an evocative design and an even more evocative name.

This example is a 1963 Convertible and has 84,000 miles (135,184 km) on the clock. At the time of writing the highest bid was sitting at a mere $10,000, though with seven days left in the Bring A Trailer auction we expect it to get much higher than that.

Riverside Red paint adorns the exterior and, while it looks unblemished, according to the seller, the car was re-sprayed approximately 20 years ago! A set of 15-inch steel wheels are featured at all four corners with Pirelli Cinturato P300 tires. The car also includes a white folding soft top but, should buyers prefer, a matching red hardtop that can be easily removed is also included.

Complementing the red exterior is a cabin bathed in red, including the seats, steering wheel rim and most of the dashboard.

Under the hood lies a carburetted 327 cubic-inch V8 with 300 HP mated to a four-speed manual transmission. The original window sticker has been retained, revealing that it sold for $4,777.80 back in 1963, the equivalent of approximately $40,000 in 2019.
