There’s no denial that the Lamborghini Urus is one very fast SUV, but now we’re about to see how it compares against a proper super saloon like the new Mercedes AMG GT 63S – and a G63, for good measure.
Lamborghini made sure that the Urus would be the fastest-accelerating SUV around, giving it a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 that produces 641hp (650PS) and 627lb-ft (850Nm).
That’s enough power to send it to 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill in just 3.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 190 mph (305 km/h). These performance figures aren’t just impressive for an SUV – they are impressive full stop, even against one of the most powerful super saloons in the market.

We’re talking of course about the Mercedes AMG GT 63S 4-Door Coupe, which could certainly use a better name. Regardless, no one can deny its fire power, since under the bonnet lives a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 as well, producing 630hp (638PS) and 663lb-ft (900Nm).
AMG claims an official 0-62 mph (0-100km/h) in 3.2 seconds and a 195 mph (315 km/h) top speed. So, the GT 63S is faster on paper, which is to be expected given the better aerodynamic efficiency of the lower body.
What’s interesting is that the AMG GT 4 isn’t all that lighter than the Urus, with a curb weight of 2,120kg (4,673lbs) versus 2,199kg (4,847lbs) for the Urus.
Watching a big SUV finishing first in a drag race against a growling AMG is something you don’t see every day – and for that, the Urus has our respect.
