1995 Ford Escort RS Cosworth Is A Ticket To Hot Hatch Heaven

Ask anybody who knows a thing or two about the history of hot hatchbacks and they’ll likely rave about the iconic Ford Escort RS Cosworth of the early to mid-90s.

In order to accommodate the larger Cosworth engine, Ford developed this fast Escort using the Sierra Cosworth as a base, while covering everything up with Escort body panels. When new, such a car would have put down 224 HP (227 PS) through its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-pot. The transmission? A five-speed manual.

If you’re interested in owning such a car, you’ll want to check out ads like this one posted recently on Bring a Trailer, showcasing a 1995 model which was used as a daily driver by the seller for nearly a decade.

Visually, it looks pretty well kept to us. The body was refinished in Ash Metallic Black circa 2013, when the car also received a new bumper and lower front spoiler. Features include the sunroof, aftermarket 18-inch wheels with 9-inch wide Continental ExtremeContact rubber, plus AP racing front brakes with four-piston calipers and two-piece rotors.

Inside, there are grey cloth Recaro seats, while the steering wheel, shift knob and pedals are all stock. According to the seller, the estimated mileage on the car is approximately 79,000 (127,138 km).

As for its mechanical mods, they include a Turbonetics T3/T4B hybrid ball-bearing turbocharger with a ported housing, an RS500-style intercooler, silicone hoses, adjustable boost controller, Mongoose 3.5-inch stainless steel exhaust and more.

One big negative though, the air conditioning system was disabled.
