Have you ever found yourself approaching an exit ramp on a motorway only to realize at the very last moment that it’s the exit ramp you’re meant to take? While it can be tempting to cross through traffic to make the exit, it’s generally a better (and safer) idea to just take the next available exit and backtrack to your destination.

As the driver of a Honda Civic recently discovered, trying to cut into an exit lane at the last second can also prove to be a costly mistake if there happens to be a police officer on patrol nearby.

This footage comes from Montreal in Canada and was filmed from the dashcam of a trucker.

As the trucker approaches an exit, a black Honda Civic suddenly comes into view, cutting in front of the truck and forcing its way into the exit lane. Unfortunately for the Honda driver, there was a police officer on patrol who saw the entire thing unfold. In fact, the officer starts to open up the door of his cruiser the moment the Civic merges in front of the truck driver.

The officer can then be seen walking swiftly down an embankment and tells the driver to pull over, much to the amusement of the cammer.

According to a number social media users, it is quite common for police officers to sit at this highway exit in Montreal as many motorists cut in front of traffic. In fact, helicopters and airplanes have apparently been used to scope out this area in the past.
