For the 2019MY, Ford has refreshed its Edge lineup, giving it, for the first time, an ST grade. Think of it as a sportier-looking alternative, with a more agile vibe provided by the oily bits.
Powering it is a 2.7-liter, twin-turbo V6, previously used in the Edge Sport. The engine has been tuned to produce 20 hp (20 PS / 15 kW) and 30 lb-ft (41 Nm) of torque more, though, so it’s rated at 335 hp (340 PS / 250 kW) and 380 lb-ft (515 Nm) of torque. Power is directed to a standard all-wheel drive system through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

On its website, Ford says the mid-size SUV offers “hair-raising performance”, but curiously, they have yet to provide official performance numbers, despite unveiling it nearly a year and a half ago. Still, it’s estimated that it hits 60 mph (96 km/h) in under 6 seconds. According to Ford’s stats, it returns an EPA-estimated 19/26/21 mpg (12.4/9.1/11.2 l/100 km / 23/31/25 mpg UK) in city/highway/combined, compared to the AWD, 2.0-liter-powered model’s 21/28/23 mpg (11.2/8.4/10.2 l/100 km / 25/34/28 mpg UK).
The 2019 Edge lineup counts four grades: SE, SEL, Titanium and ST. Pricing starts from just a little under $30,000, going to $33,300 for the SEL and $38,760 for the Titanium. The ST has an MSRP of $42,355, but if you dare to spec it with a few optional extras, then you’ll see the price climb to over $51,000. This makes it quite costly and brings us to the question popped in the title. Trying to provide an answer was Kelley Blue Book in their video review of the sporty Edge, shared below.
