Volkswagen has named soccer star Alex Morgan as its newest Brand Ambassador, a collaboration that’s meant to inspire a whole new generation of soccer players.

The U.S. women’s national soccer team is on a roll right now, winning its first two games of the FIFA Women’s World Cup. In their first match of the tournament, the U.S. team came away with a 13-0 win over Thailand, a game in which Morgan scored five times.

The collaboration between VW and Morgan also includes a commercial dubbed ‘Inspire’, featuring the Atlas SUV and a young girl who’s eager to replicate her idol’s moves on the pitch.

“Alex Morgan is a strong, dedicated advocate for the sport of soccer, and has inspired millions over the past decade. Her efforts have proven when we pave the way for the next generation, we change their destination,” stated VW of America marketing exec, Jim Zabel. “Alex is a perfect brand ambassador for Volkswagen and will help us communicate our ‘Drive Bigger’ brand positioning, on and off the pitch.”

Morgan’s ambassadorship will continue through and beyond the striker’s probable return to the Summer Olympic games in 2020, with Volkswagen serving as automotive partner to U.S Soccer through 2022 – the automaker is committed to helping soccer become more popular in the United States.

As for VW’s ‘Drive Bigger’ campaign, the slogan isn’t meant to be taken literally, but figuratively, as in “driving something bigger than ourselves.” The German brand’s ultimate goal is to become carbon neutral on a global scale by the year 2050.
