The Avalon TRD stars in a new video that’s bound to pique your interest in the car.
To put together this clip, Toyota recruited the help of professional drifter Ken Gushi as well as Paralympic athlete Jarryd Wallace and his father Jeff. With Gushi behind the wheel, the trio headed out onto a racetrack where the drifter proceeded to kick out the sedan’s tail with the liberal use of a hydraulic handbrake.
As you probably guessed, the Avalan TRD doesn’t come with a hydraulic handbrake as standard; it is instead sold exclusively with an electronic handbrake, making drifts like this impossible. Nevertheless, it is quite impressive to see it slide around on a race circuit despite being front wheel drive.

Toyota unveiled the new Avalon TRD alongside the Camry TRD late last year. Both models use a naturally-aspirated 3.5-liter V6 with 301 HP that’s connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission. That’s a reasonable amount of grunt for a vehicle like this, although the eye-catching exterior of the sporty Avalon may fool you into thinking it is even more powerful.
The Avalon TRD sets itself apart from lesser models visually thanks to an extreme front fascia with a grille virtually as large as the entire front-end – although, in reality, most of it is blocked off with black plastic and not functional.
