All-New Opel Corsa Gets The Vauxhall Makeover, Brags About Its Diet

Vauxhall has released the first official pictures and details of the new Corsa, which will launch soon in the United Kingdom.

Following hot on the heels of the Corsa-e, which celebrated its online premiere at the beginning of the month, the ICE-powered, right-hand drive Corsa looks virtually identical to its Opel sibling, save for the different exterior and badges. It’s also the first car in the segment to get glare-free, full-LED headlights, which were first introduced in the Astra and Insignia.

Equipment in Vauxhall’s new subcompact hatchback includes a 7.0-inch, touchscreen display with navigation system, or the optional 10-inch system, which adds Multimedia Navi Pro. Vauxhall Connect, a new telematics service, is also available, as are the automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition and intelligent speed control and limiter.

Tipping the scales at just 980 kg (2,161 lbs), the new-gen Corsa is 10 percent lighter than its predecessor. The engine lineyp consists of a 75 PS (74 hp / 55 kW) 1.2-liter, three-cylinder and a 100 PS (99 hp / 74 kW) 1.2-liter turbo. The petrol burners are joined by the 1.5-liter diesel, which kicks out 100 PS (99 hp / 74 kW) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque. Depending on the selected powertrain, customers get either a five-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission, with the entry-level model getting the stick shift.

The Corsa-e electric model features a 136 PS (134 hp / 100 kW) and 260 Nm (192 lb-ft) of torque electric motor, powered by a 50 kWh battery with fast-charging capability. It has a driving range of up to 205 miles (330 km) and starts from £26,490 ($33,713/€29,607) in the UK, with the £3,500 ($4,454/€3,912) Government Grant.
