The 2020 Mercedes-AMG A45 has been a long time coming, though it has yet to be officially revealed. However, a new prototype has just been spied undergoing high-speed testing at the Nurburgring.
We’ve seen prototypes of the uber hatch testing at the German circuit in the past, but most of those clips have been concentrated on the public roads near the circuit. This one, though, shows Merc’s test drivers pushing the A45 to its limits on the circuit, invoking what seems to be a bit of understeer at the limit of adhesion.
The screeching of the tires on this prototype is so noisy that it is almost difficult to hear the engine or its exhaust. Mind you, when they are audible, they are nothing to write home about, as they’re not particularly loud or throaty.Which may, or may not, mean that this particular prototype isn’t fitted with a production-spec exhaust system.

The new A45 may not sound particularly impressive, but it is clearly darn fast. The hatch will inevitably lap the Nurburgring in less than 8 minutes, putting it up there with the fastest hatchbacks around ‘Green Hell’ – and, maybe, crowning the new class king.
Mercedes-AMG will offer the new A45 in two guises. Both will utilize a 2.0-liter turbocharged four, with the base model delivering 382 HP and the S an astounding 415 hp.
The 2020 Mercedes-AMG A45 is expected to make its official debut at September’s Frankfurt Auto Show.
