The new Ferrari SF90 Stradale has to be one of the most important models in the Italian car maker’s long and illustrious history, as it represents the next, electrifying chapter.
This isn’t the first Ferrari to come with a hybrid powertrain, as that honor belongs to the LaFerrari, but the SF90 Stradale is the company’s first series-production model to combine three electric motors with a biturbo V8 and the first one to officially use a plug for recharging its batteries.
Top Gear had the chance to get a closer look at an example currently on display at a dealership in London.

The engine is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with 769hp (780PS) and 590lb-ft (800Nm) of torque. One of the electric motors is mounted between the V8 and the new eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, while the other two are located on the front axle. Electric power alone is rated at 217hp (220PS), but the combined output is a mesmerizing 986hp (1,000PS).
With the two electric motors sitting at the front, you probably have guessed already that this is an all-wheel drive supercar. The performance however is pure hypercar, with Ferrari claiming a 0-62mph (100km/h) in 2.5 seconds, 0-124mph (200km/h) in 6.7 seconds and a top speed of 211mph (340km/h).
In addition, the 7.9kWh lithium-ion battery pack enable the SF90 Stradale to travel on electric power alone for as much as 15.5 miles (25km), during which is powered only by the front wheels.
Maranello hasn’t announced any pricing details just yet, but has hinted that it will ask around $500,000 to $600,000 for the SF90 Stradale. While that’s in no way cheap, if you take into consideration that this is a 1,000hp Ferrari we’re talking about, the SF90 Stradale does sound a bit of a bargain in hypercar terms.
