Porsche arrived at the Formula E round in New York with a late prototype of the upcoming electric Taycan, which showed off its dynamic abilities by performing several fast laps on the race course.

New York is the third and final stop for the Porsche Triple Demo Run, a special event where the company took the upcoming Taycan on three continents in the space of three weeks, following visits in China and the United Kingdom.

Porsche’s works driver Neej Jani drove the Taycan prototype at the Red Hook circuit, in the port of Brooklyn, showcasing the speed and the vehicle’s onboard advanced energy recovery tech. “I was surprised by the long range of the new Taycan even when driven spiritedly round a race track,” Jani commented after his drive. “That is due to its performance-oriented battery and the sophisticated energy management system.”

While most technical details remain under wraps, the new Taycan is expected to pack over 600 HP from its electric powertrain. The company has already confirmed that it’ll sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.5 seconds and 124 mph (200km/h) in less that 12, with top speed will exceed 155 mph (250 km/h).

Porsche claims that more than 20,000 customers have expressed their interest in its first battery-electric model by placing a deposit. The new Taycan will be unveiled in full production form this September, and will officially launch in the market at the end of the year.

Porsche will offer Taycan owners “intelligent” charging solutions for any scenario. European customers will get access to around 70,000 charging points from various providers and central billing from Porsche, including both fast charging stations owned from the company and those installed in cooperation with charging networks like Ionity in Europe or Electrify America in the USA.
