It’s been a while since the world has had a new car from Lotus to get really excited about. The all-electric Evija hypercar is that vehicle.
Unveiled a couple of days ago, the Evija promises to be the most powerful road-legal production car ever and features a jaw-dropping design. This video from Carfection offers an up-close look at the car and shows just how stunning the car really is.
Henry Catchpole had the opportunity to speak with Russell Carr, the head of design at Lotus, to explore the Evija. We’re offered an in-depth look at what makes it special and how a vehicle like this should get enthusiasts excited about what the future holds for the British car manufacturer.

Carr reveals that Lotus completed the first sketches of the Evija in the middle of 2017 and towards the end of 2017, scale models of the car had been completed. The company wanted to ensure the Evija was compact and as a result, it’s actually shorter than a Porsche 911 even though that may not appear to be the case on film or in photos.
Perhaps the most remarkable angle of the car is its rear. Lotus has designed a pair of huge venturi tunnels for the car which start behind the doors and flow around the rear wheels before opening up to the rear fascia. The taillights are featured around these tunnels and mimic the look of the afterburners of a jet aircraft. They also give the car a look unlike any other on the road.
Lotus will only build 130 examples of the Evija and plans to start production next year. Prices start at a cool $2.1 million.
