The X3 M Competition is a high-performance SUV with enough performance to make you weak at the knees and, in a new commercial, takes to the streets of New York City.
The defining characteristic of the X3 M Competition, as well as the X4 M Competition and the more affordable (non-Competition) variants, is the new twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six. Developed by M Division, it pumps out 473 HP and 442 lb-ft (598 Nm) of torque in standard guise and 503 HP and 442 lb-ft (598 Nm) in the Competition models.

Not long ago, figures like these were limited to supercars, but the X3 M is a spacious five-seater which can easily lug around four in supreme comfort (and five with a bit of good will on the rear passengers’ side). It also looks particularly aggressive driving through the streets of the Big Apple.
Presented with an arrow-straight stretch of road, the X3 M Competition will accelerate from 0-60 mph (96 km/h) in a blistering 4.1 seconds and continue through to a top speed of 174 mph (280 km/h), or 177 mph (284 km/h) with the optional M Driver’s Package.
BMW M engineers didn’t just work their magic on the vehicle’s engine. The suspension features custom swivel bearings, torque arms and wishbones and the chassis has been strengthened with M-specific bracing which includes a strut tower brace and a new A-strut by the firewall. Finally, there’s also an Active M Differential and an M Servotronic steering system, to ensure a sporty driving experience.
