Netflix’s F1 documentary series ‘Drive To Survive’ will return on the streaming platform for its second season, and, unlike Season 1, this time both Ferrari and Mercedes have agreed to grant behind-the-scenes access to the network – along, of course, with the remaining eight teams.
Formula 1 and Netflix confirmed that the second season of the documentary series will air in 2020, following all 10 teams and their drivers throughout the 2019 FIA world championship.
“We are thrilled to once again be working with Netflix on the second series of Drive to Survive,” said Ian Holmes, Director of Media Rights at Formula 1.

“It is a truly unique series which allows fans to see the unseen side of F1, showcasing the personalities and emotions each team and driver goes through, both on and off the grid.”
“Drive to Survive has enabled us to reach a entire new fanbase globally and partnering with Netflix for a second season ensures we are continuing to put fans at the heart of what we do and make the sport more open and accessible to all.”
Of course the big news here is that Mercedes and Ferrari are included, as previously they were the only ones that refused to take part in the debut, 10-part season of ‘Drive To Survive’. Back then, Ferrari didn’t give a reason why and Mercedes said it was too focused on the championship. Our best guess is that the two real championship contenders didn’t want to give anything away, in case their rivals used it to their advantage.
Apparently their issues with the docuseries are now solved (and their fears alayed), and we are going to get a complete behind-the-scenes look at the 2019 F1 championship.
