Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas’ Mercedes W10 cars will look a bit different during this upcoming weekend’s German Grand Prix, as they will feature special liveries to celebrate the team’s 125th year of motorsport racing.
Before making a switch to silver for their race cars back in the early 1930s, Mercedes competed in Germany’s national racing color, which was white. The team will feature both colors on their cars at Hockenheim, with white fading away to reveal the silver.
Also changed is their racing garage, redesigned with historic race posters from different eras in which the Silver Arrows were at the top of their game – something that’s taking place this era too, coincidentally.
The 2019 German Grand Prix also marks the team’s 200th start in Formula 1, their first taking place at the 1954 French Grand Prix at Reims, a race won by Juan Manuel Fangio in the W196.

Apart from the visual changes, the team’s cars have landed in Germany with a few tech updates too, such as a new turning vane assembly, new front wing and some changes to the bodywork. Then there are the new rear wing endplates, which feature a stepped trailing-edge corner cutout and some new fins – the goal being improved downforce.
Mercedes-AMG Petronas has won the last three races at Hockenheim and are currently 164 points ahead of Ferrari in the Constructors’ Championship this year. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton is no.1 in the Drivers Standings with 223 points, 39 points clear of his teammate.
