Porsche is partnering with Apple to allow the upcoming all-electric Taycan to stream Apple Music directly into the car.

It is no secret that the Taycan will be one of the company’s most important and technically innovative vehicles in recent years, and the inclusion of Apple Music streaming will help to differentiate the vehicle from its all-electric, and ICE-powered, rivals.

“It’s about innovation. It’s about design,” Porsche Cars North America president and chief executive Klaus Zellmer told CNBC at a recent gathering at the marque’s U.S. headquarters. “It’s about brand values that we share. And that’s why we were really excited when the project started.”

The Porsche Taycan’s use of this service distinguishes it from the armada of other vehicles on the market which offer Apple CarPlay, as the streaming service doesn’t require an iPhone to be plugged into the car. Of course, if customers wish to plug in their iPhones, they will be able to do so and use Apple CarPlay.

“We didn’t leave that out because we still feel it’s a valuable addition to our overall portfolio,” director of sales, marketing, and operations for Porsche Connect Lars Buchwald said. “Obviously, with Apple CarPlay, especially with a wireless phone you can access your mail your messages you can do phone calls, etc.”

Porsche recently announced that the Taycan will make its online debut on September 4 in an event that will be streamed live around the world.

In range-topping Turbo guise, Porsche’s EV will put out in excess of 592 HP from its two electric motors. Less powerful (and more affordable) versions will also be offered at launch, while down the road the range will welcome a Turbo S model with 724 HP.
