Illuminated grilles are not a novelty in the car world, with some automakers like Mercedes-Benz offering them for several years now. However, BMW on its part only recently joined the band wagon with the 2020 X6 SUV, but it’s trying to catch up by expanding the availability of an LED-pimped grille to the latest generation 5-Series.
Priced at $614 in the United States, according to BimmerPost, this feature adds an array of LEDs in the kidney grille that light up from above. It can be ordered straight from the factory or retrofitted to any G30, as it’s a genuine BMW accessory.

The illuminated kidney grille is definitely not to everyone’s liking, which is why the German automaker has other ideas when it comes to personalizing the nose of the 2019 5-Series. Their offerings include the original M Performance black kidney grille, which looks miles better in our humble opinion, and costs way less too: only $106 in the States.
And since we’re in the M Performance territory, we’ll remind you that you can get many other accessories for the executive model, from black side stripes to carbon fiber front apron side mirror caps, rear spoiler and diffuser. A new exhaust system is on the list as well, alongside a braking system with red calipers, unique wheels, stainless steel pedals, side window sunshades, coat hanger, all-weather floor mats and so on.
On the other hand, you could just settle for the latest flashy upgrade. We won’t judge you.
