We’ve seen many photos of Aston Martin DBX prototypes in recent months, including some released by the automaker itself.
However, in earlier images the luxury SUV’s rear end wasn’t the real deal since it featured provisional taillights and lots of cladding. As for the later photos, Aston Martin deliberately chose not to photograph the DBX from behind.
Well, that changes today because our photographers have spotted a DBX prototype and managed to shoot it from behind, revealing the final production taillamps and new details at the back.
The luxury SUV adopts sleek horizontal taillights clearly inspired by the Aston Martin Vantage. The pronounced crease that spans the width of the tailgate from one lamp to the other also draws inspiration from Aston Martin’s smallest sports car. This makes us wonder if the DBX also features a light strip underneath the camo that follows that crease and unites the taillamps.
Well, we’ll just have to wait and see. One thing is certain: that edge adds a lot of visual tension (for better or worse) between the sloping rear screen and the rest of the tailgate which is vertical. These new photos also reveal the design of the rear bumper which looks almost as aggressive as that of the Vantage. There are two big round exhaust pipes, each surrounded by a generous amount of trim and visually connected to each other by a thinner line.
Compared to earlier DBX prototypes, Aston Martin has updated the roof spoiler too, carving it in order to allow air to flow underneath it. There’s still some cladding disguising the shape of the third side windows and the crease running from the headlights all the way to the taillights.
At the front, we can’t spot any changes compared to the latest official photos and that’s good because the DBX’s face looks unmistakably as an Aston Martin.
As for the interior, we have no fresh photos of it but earlier spy shots revealed a significant chunk of it — enough for us to spot many Mercedes-Benz components and switchgear.

Speaking of Mercedes-Benz, its AMG division will supply the engine of the DBX, a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 unit with around 503 hp (510 PS) in the base model and even more horsepower in faster models. Rumor has it Aston’s 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 engine from the DB11 will also find its way into the DBX but nothing has been confirmed so far. Aston Martin’s first SUV will be officially unveiled in December.
